Rev. Jim responds to antigay messages

Brethren,

It is not often that I receive anti-gay letters; but when I do, though they claim to be speaking in the defense of God and the Bible, they are, without exception, devoid of any shred of kindness, courtesy or respect. Often they are so furious that some of what they say comes out as an unintelligible vomit of rage that takes me some time to decipher. Rarely do they even introduce themselves or offer a basic greeting. And when I open their letters they begin so boldly and vehemently that they are like torch & pitchfork vigilantes who have suddenly broken down my door.

We are not in the age of the Old Testament prophets who walked through the streets shouting doom and damnation against sinners. The Disciples themselves fell into this error and were rebuked by Jesus for it in Luke 9:

“And it came to pass when the time was come that He should be received up, He stedfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem and sent messengers before His face. And they went and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for Him. And they did not receive Him, because His face was as though He would go to Jerusalem. And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, wilt Thou that we command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, even as Elias did?” But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them!”

The Old Covenant was based on salvation through works. There had to be absolute obedience to the Law or you were damned. There were even things that we have virtually no control over - such as female menstruation or male night emissions (i.e. "wet dreams") - which brought condemnation. There is ZERO mercy in the Law, and infraction of the Law is death. Because keeping the Law 100% of the time is impossible for a human, God instituted the sacrificial system so that an animal would die in your place. And since the blood of an animal cannot wash away sin, God did away with that covenant and instituted a new covenant, which is the shed blood of His Son Jesus. We are in the New Covenant age of mercy and grace, and as preachers of the New Covenant. We are not morality police. We do not accost people by grabbing the front of their shirts and screaming God’s Law in their face and telling them that they better know God or else. The prophet Jeremiah wrote in 31:31 the difference between the attitudes of the Old and New Testaments, saying,

“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah - NOT according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt (which My covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them), saith the LORD. But THIS shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel: After those days, saith the LORD, I will put My law in their inward parts and write it in their hearts, and will be their God and they shall be My people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, ‘KNOW THE LORD!!’ For they shall all know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

This February I received a series of hostile emails from an anti-gay man who, in his own words, believes that God has given me up to a reprobate mind for demonstrating the Bible’s support for homosexuals. Here (below) is a transcript of our conversation for any of you that might be interested.

I was reading [the article] "Are Genitals The Qualifier For Marriage?" posted on your website at GayChristianSurvivors.
I found 1 problem.

#1 Gen 2:18 And the LORD [H3068] God [H430] said, [H559] It is not [H3808] good [H2896] that the man [H120] should be [H1961] alone; [H905] I will make [H6213] him an help [H5828] meet for him. [H5048]

The "for him" means part opposite; specifically a counterpart. Your gay theory is wrong mister, you should repent and turn to Bible with your heart, not with your lust. Thanks!

The Bible, which you tell me to turn to with my heart, says "They will know you are Christians by your love", and by your total absence of love I see that you yourself have not turned to the Bible with your heart. Tony, I reject your bizarre interpretation of "for him"; you are completely incorrect. But it doesn't matter. There is nothing you can say to convince me to follow your Nazi doctrines. Bible clearly states that man sleep with man like with a woman commits condemnation and both were supposed to be killed. Sure Jesus came and no one has to kill anyone but that does not mean the law has changed. Jesus was never gay. Do you think Jehova from Old Testament and Jesus from New Testament are 2 different God's? For 1, Jesus said "I and Father are one". For 2 read last book of Old Testament. There are only 4 chapters, all talk about Jehova's day of coming and that he was gonna send Elijah before him correct ? So who came? Wasn’t John the Baptist Elijah ? Jesus is the same God that was in the Old Testament and He hates gay sin as He did before. God never changes. Love my friend is not lust, many take it to be the same thing more and more.

Rom 1:27 and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working unseemliness, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was due.
Rom 1:28 And even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
The 28th verse says why you think it’s all normal. You refuse to have God in your knowledge, so God gave you up into a reprobate mind to do those things. You should read this chapter Romans 1. Maybe God would open up your mind at last.

Actually, I didn’t listen to ANYONE’S claim that being gay was OK. The only thing that I’ve ever heard was wicked preachers spewing out hate in the name of God. I did my own biblical research in the Hebrew Old Testament and the Greek New Testament (which, by the way, I can read and which clearly you cannot) and the King James Version in English, as opposed to the satanic new age bible versions you are apparently using. I have no need of lexicons like you do. In reality, it is YOU who has swallowed Hitler’s unbiblical anti-gay doctrines.

We are not under the Law. We are not in the Old Testament. We are in the New Testament which is Grace and Liberty. However, that is not the point. The Law did not condemn homosexuals in the first place. It condemned heterosexual men (men who lay with a woman) who leave the woman to fornicate with males. That is not a homosexual.

Jesus was never gay.
I never said He was. That issue is irrelevant anyway. Jesus did not come to earth to mate with an individual. His mate is the Body of Christ – His followers – which includes both males and females. Or have you never read “There is NEITHER male nor female in Christ Jesus”.

Sorry, you must be blind. This says NOTHING about homosexuals. If you had read my section “ROMANS 1” on my website, not only would you have seen that I most certainly did read that section but also that I completely refuted your wicked assertions that this is about homosexuals. If you cannot bother to read my website before you fling damnations and false accusations against me, then don’t waste my time debating with me. I dont understand why cant you see what i see. Bible never says "Gay" or "Homosexual" so its impossible to find such words. What it does say CLEARLY is that "man that sleeps with another man" called ABOMINATION. Why is that so hard to understand....
Wait a minute, i think i know why you cant see it. Rom 1:28 "God gave them up unto a reprobate mind".
Why Romans 1:26 does not say anything about homosexuals ? Well #1 the word homosexual probably did not exist (not 100% sure) what it does say is "also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working unseemliness". Why is that so hard to understand ? "burned in their lust one toward another" to me thats nothing but homosexual, why not to you ?

Jim. Put aside lies you've been fed. Please understand that truth is in the word of God (Bible) not the mouth of a man pastor or anybody who preached you that gay is ok. Like my self (sometimes) you dont want to accept some facts because then you'd have to stop doing what you doing and you dont want to stop because you like to do what you do (not you so much but your flesh). Just stop for a minute and think, i beg you in the name of Jesus (u cant refuse it if he is your God). Just stop and think. The "God gave them up unto a reprobate mind" could be talking about you. From what i see, clearly you cant see what i see. You tell me right to my face (sort of) that quoted passages are not talking about gay or homosexuals. If my eyes were shut closed, i would say same thing. I wont write to you no more, so if u dont want to you dont have to reply. All i ask is that you at least ask your God to open your spiritual eyes.

I appreciate your concern, but I have written my website precisely because God HAS opened my eyes and has shown me that your doctrines are not compatible with His holy Word. I am the one who is concerned for you. It is you who refuses to see. It is you who keeps taking verses out of context and reinterpreting them.
You have ignored all of Romans 1 and only focused on verses 26 & 27 and then applied all the other verse to it. That is totally incorrect. Those verses speak of people who know of God and yet refuse to give him glory as God (Atheists) and have changed the image of God into that of beasts (that is, Evolutionists who say we are not the image of God but that beasts are our parents) and because of this God gave THEM - THOSE PEOPLE - up to vile affections, causing heterosexuals to be so consumed with their own confusion and corruption that they go against their own nature to fornicate with he same gender. THIS IS NOT TALKING ABOUT HOMOSEXUALS.
You keep thinking that homosexuals are merely perverted heterosexuals. That is NOT TRUE. There are heterosexuals and there are homosexuals. EVERY PERSON ON EARTH is either heterosexual or homosexual - even if they remain a virgin their entire life! You think it is all about sex, and you are completely wrong. Being attracted to someone is not lust. If a heterosexual man was not attracted to women he would never marry a woman! I’m going to start by bringing to your attention the opening words of the verses from 1st Timothy: “Knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous man…” What is so appalling is that when you read this verse you automatically put yourself in the position of the righteous man, and therefore you feel entitled to act in the position of judge, reading this verse with self-righteousness against all that is mentioned in this verse. I am reminded of when Jesus said, “For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see, and that they which see might be made blind.” And the pompous self-righteous Pharisees, mockingly asked Him, “Are we blind also?!” And Jesus said to them, “If ye were blind ye should have no sin; but now ye say, ‘We see!’ - therefore your sin remaineth!” Beware of considering yourself a righteous man when you shove God off of His Judgment Seat to sit yourself down on it. God calls His Judgment Seat a MERCY Seat. I say to you, beware, o man, you who makes yourself God! Neither you, nor I, nor anyone else on this planet is a righteous man; our righteousness is not our own, it is CHRIST’S. As it is written, “There is NONE righteous – no not one!” So if you think that you are a righteous man who is superior to others with the power to condemn, you are dangerously delusional. I warm you to back yourself up right quick, and get yourself onto the path of righteousness, which is HUMILITY BEFORE GOD AND MERCY TOWARD MAN. For,

Now let’s get down to business, Tony.

These 1st Corinthians 9:6 and 1st Timothy 1:9 use the terms "ABUSERS OF THEMSELVES WITH MANKIND" and "THEM THAT DEFILE THEMSELVES WITH MANKIND", and Paul sums up in 1 Corinthians with "and such were some of you."

Actually these two terms have exactly the same definition, and we know this because they are both translated from the exact same Greek word: "Arsenokoitays".

First, the temptation will be (and your error has been) to define these statements as we perceive them in today's American English. Since you do not know Koine Greek and I do, let me educate you. On the surface, the English words used in these verses can be used to refer to ANY form of abuse between people, including drug use, violence, rape and the like. In this particular case, though, an understanding of the Koine Greek language of the Textus Receptus New Testament and the traditions of the time, is vital to the meaning implied. You cannot just apply what YOU THINK the text means. Paul tells us that you must "study to show yourselves approved unto God." So let's study.

“ARSENOKOITAYS”
Although the exact definition of this word has been hotly debated among scholars for centuries (another red flag), we do know that ARSENO means "a man/male", and KOITAYS means literally a man’s bed for sex, and it is from this that we get "coitus/to have sex". It is a generic term referring to men who fornicate. It includes adultery, fornication, rape, incest, sex with a prepubescent child, whoremongering, prostitution, etc. - heterosexually AND/OR homosexually - that is, the sex of the other party isn't the issue; and it is also a particular word used for the act of Greek men who sponsored the education of a teenage boy and had sex with him as part of his education. It is definitely a sexual term, but it does not SPECIFICALLY or NECESSARILY refer to love/attraction/married sex between two males; it is not an "anti-gay" term. I should mention here also that not even Modern Greek is consistent in its definition of this word. Some Modern Greek dictionaries bizarrely translate this word as a vulgar slang for "masturbation", while others translate it as "men watchers" (that is, someone who ogles men) such as the required male nudity of the Greek Olympic Games. However, Modern Greek and Koine Greek are practically two different languages. A Modern Greek person would have as much a difficult time understanding Koine Greek as a Modern American English-speaking person would have a difficult time understanding 8th century British English.

If you use an NIV, ASB, NKJV, Living Bible or other new age bible version, this verse probably says "homosexual offenders", or something similar. This is utterly and shamefully incorrect and an INTENTIONALLY false rendering of the KJV English and not based on any biblical manuscript evidence whatsoever. Until the 19th century, not only was there no such word as "homosexual", but there was no word AT ALL for a homosexual. Heterosexual or homosexual identity was automatically implied by context, and a particular sexuality is in no way contextually implied in these verses.

The use of "homosexual" in the new bible versions is purely a personal bias on the part of the authors. The problem is that most people are under the naive impression that any book that says "Holy Bible" on the cover must be a Holy Bible. Nothing could be further from the truth. The NIV alone has over 60,000 omissions, additions and alterations to the biblical text, and is translated from some of the most corrupted and scholarly-denounced manuscripts ever written (such as the Septuagint LXX, the Vaticanus and Sinaiticus). The NIV, in the book of Isaiah, even goes so far as to accuse Jesus of being Lucifer and cast out of heaven for blasphemy - so it is no wonder that these verses are corrupted as well.

Oh, and one last thing. These two verses by the Apostle Paul are the first recorded uses of this word IN HISTORY. There is NOTHING previously written to offer any context to this word. The next time it is found in historic records is in the ancient Greco-pagan Sibylline Oracles, but the word is used in reference to murder, stealing, and perjury. Interestingly enough, the next time it is mentioned in literature is in the false gospel manuscript called Acts of John in the latter end of the 2nd century – a hundred years after Paul coined the word – and in this case it is used in the same sense as the Hebrew “Qadesh”, in reference to male temple prostitutes. It is possible that Paul himself coined this word to provide a Greek reference to the Hebrew “Qadesh”. No one knows for sure, therefore no honest Christian can use it against homosexuals.

EFFEMINATE / MALAKOS
1st Corinthians also uses the word "effeminate", which is often used against homosexuals. Anyone with an education in English grammar knows that effeminate does NOT mean "homosexual" - and neither does it's biblical Greek word, "malakos". The Strong's Concordance defines this word as "soft, i.e. fine (clothing), effeminate". The Webster's New World Dictionary of 1951 defines it as "having the qualities generally attributed to women, as weakness, gentleness, delicacy, etc. Unmanly, weak, soft, decadent." Pro-Baseball player Billy Bean, for example, is homosexual but is not effeminate. On the other hand, Michael Jackson is a heterosexual who is highly effeminate. I know about as many heterosexuals as homosexuals who behave in this manner. In fact, only a small minority of homosexuals are effeminate. The main reason that most homosexuals have been able to hide in the "closet" so well is because they are NOT effeminate. Being effeminate is not a homosexual trait, it is an "unmasculine" trait.

However, the context of the word as it is used in Scripture indicates nothing in relation to mannerisms. The Bible itself defines this word. Jesus used this very same word when He compared John the Baptist's clothing to that worn in king's houses:

"But what went ye out for to see?
A man clothed in soft [malakos] raiment.
Behold, they that wear soft [malakos] raiment are in kings' houses."
- Matthew 11:8

Those that live in king's houses dress effeminate (malakoi), while John's clothing was merely a ruff camel's skin. The daintiness and niceties of a royal court, where every luxury is indulged, is a perfect example of the biblical use of "effeminate". It harkens back to Deuteronomy 22:5, “Neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God” – an effeminate behavior that has been rampant among many heterosexual men for thousands of years. I am reminded of an episode of the TV show THE GOLDEN GIRLS in which the character Sophia discusses her heterosexual son with her daughter Dorothy and roommate Blanche:


SOPHIA: Dorothy, I never understood why your brother liked to wear women's clothes. Unless he was queer.

BLANCHE: Sophia, people don't say queer anymore, they say gay.

SOPHIA: They say gay if a guy can sing the entire score of "Gigi." But, a six foot three, two hundred pound married man with kids who likes to dress up like Dorothy Lamour, I think you have to go with queer!”


To use these verses solely against homosexuals is totally in error, and a convoluted attempt to push anti-gay propaganda. The sad thing is that, by attributing these verses to homosexuality, those to whom it is really meant happily continue on in there ways, content that the Lord has nothing to chastise them for. We may not have control over who and what we are on a basic human level, but we do have control over how we behave; and the Lord expects us to behave in a manner which edifies HIM. He must increase and we must decrease, as John the Baptist put it.

We should be proud of who God made us to be, because He created us for His glory, to be His temple. Whether you are gay or straight, if you were created as a female, thank the Lord for creating you as a female and honor Him in your female body. If you were created as a male, thank the Lord for creating you as a male and honor Him in your male body. If God made you as a woman it was because He WANTED a woman, and if He created you as a man it was because He WANTED a man. It’s up to you to decide whether you want to live for Christ or live for yourself. To live for Christ is to behave in a manner that properly edifies what HE wants. If you are a man or woman and do not know how to "fit" into your male or female body, simply ask the Lord to help you; and to the church I say that such men and women are in need the gentle strength and support of your compassion and understanding and mercy, rather than a wagging and bitter tongue of hate and condemnation and self-righteousness. Don't confuse being gay with being unmanly, nor being lesbian with being unwomanly. There is no law against being gay or lesbian, but God is clear that He expects us to align ourselves with the physical body He has blessed us with. We were bought with the price of God's blood; we are not our own property. And a believer's body is specifically the Temple of God. Let God not find confusion in His temple, for it is not HE that is the author of confusion.

Unfortunately, because these verses have been re-interpreted in modern times to refer to homosexuals, the so-called exgay ministries, in their aforementioned ceaseless cause to make Stepford Husbands of homosexual men and women and even children, have tried to use Paul's phrase, "and such were some of you", as evidence that homosexuals can "change" to heterosexuality, and many homosexuals have been deceived by this lie, and have been severally psychologically harmed by it; and others have inflicted physical mutilations on themselves or have committed suicide. But Paul was speaking to sexually debauched and effeminate men as just some among a long list of offenders - especially to those wealthy and educated heterosexual men in Greece and Rome who participated in the very common practice of taking young teenagers into their home to educate them and engage in sexual activity with them (the parents of the children and the wives of the teachers knew full well AND APPROVED of what was involved, and it was considered a great honor for a child to be taken in by the Teachers for these practices - the sexual acts were part of the package). If you saw the movie 300, which is a very loose retelling of the army of the ancient Spartans, who were well known for their adult-with-adult-only bisexual fornication, you'll have noted the Spartan king's disgusted reference to "those boy-lovers in Athens". These deeds by the Greeks were well known. And, the near worshipful adoration of the male body in Greek society was so prevalent that women were even forbidden to attend the ancient Olympic Games because the athletes were required to go naked in order to sport and flaunt their bodies. Such wickedness should be enough to cause any godly man or woman - straight or gay - to want to vomit.

So these activities, condemned by Paul, are not historical secrets, but are known the world over - and Paul rightly rebuked them, as we do also. Perhaps our Christian society should stop misplacing biblical references like this by wrongfully accusing homosexuals, and start to place biblical criticisms where they rightly belongs. If the Christian community desires to launch a public tirade against societal immorality, perhaps directing it towards the rampant heterosexual adultery and divorce and the total inundation of sex and violence in the entertainment industry might be a better and more productive place to start - rather than railing against a group of people just because they aren't attracted to certain genitals.

But I myself recommend that Christians do exactly what Jesus Himself commanded, which is that we ought not to raise up our voices in the streets like riotous fools, with protesting and picketing, entangling religion with politics; but rather, remember that Christ said MY KINGDOM IS NOT OF THIS WORLD, and therefore we must STOP trying to create God's Kingdom here on this earth with this absurd attempt to enforce the Gospel on the People by force of Law (instead of by the individual’s willful acceptance by faith); and when any society refuses to hear God's Word, we MUST NOT retaliate by forcing our religion upon them by law, but instead simply wipe their dust off our feet and MOVE ON. Let GOD be judge, and leave the Right of Vengeance in GOD'S hands - as He Himself commanded. Those who dare to usurp from God His sole Right of Vengeance will face this punishment: “that which you mete out will be meted to you and you will be judged with the judgment that you judge others”. We have the right to determine right from wrong and to live righteously - but we do not have the power to judge individuals with condemnation; and we most certainly do not have the authority to use God's holy and precious Scriptures as a weapon against mankind ("for the weapons of our warfare are NOT CARNAL... for we wrestle NOT against flesh and blood!").

LOVE our neighbors, DO GOOD to our enemies, and TEACH the Gospel of Christ TO THOSE WHO WILL HEAR: and that is what we've been authorized to do. Be wary of any "Christian" who does contrary to this.

First, I am not "so desperate to be freed from" the law - Jesus has SET ME FREE, and whom the Son sets free is free indeed! Why are you so hell bent on being bound to the Law? Shall we look through the massive rolodex of sins that the Law will da mn you for?

Secondly,

Arsenokoites DOES NOT mean homosexual no matter how many times you say so.
"Sodomite" does not mean "homosexual".
"Abuser of (that defile) self with mankind" does not mean "homosexual".
"Mankind" means "humankind" - NOT "males".
Arsenokoites refers to a man who is a whoremonger; a gigolo. You are using your heterosexist lust to try to redefine and rewrite history.

Tony, I have already refuted all of your arguments on my website. I will not rehash subjects that I have already discussed. If you have data FROM THE BIBLE that proves that my ENTIRE WEBSITE is incorrect, THEN I will discuss it further.
